Lettuce Litter
By: Jessica Duboff, Jessica Boynton, and Ricardo Antonio
During our in-house field trip we visited a station named Lettuce Litter. At
this station we shook a plant over a bucket of water and watched as different organisms
such as shrimp, fish, leeches, beetles and water bugs fell out. We caught the small
animals in a container and examined them with a magnifying glass. Then we needed
to graph these animals to count how many were in the water. We learned there are many
living things growing around a small plant and if people destroy the Everglades
numerous living creatures could become extinct. The Everglades is very important to our
animals and plants.
