University of Miami Presidential Papers (University of
Miami)
The University of Miami, Office of the President Records contains
the administrative records of the Office of the President from the formation
of the University in 1926 to the present day. These files document the
activities and operations of the chief officer of the University. They
include correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, agendas, clippings,
photographs, publications and other materials created and compiled by
the Office of the President. The records reflect the internal university
responsibilities and the external federal, state, and local responsibilities
assigned to the President's Office. The University of Miami has been
actively involved in South Florida activities and developments from
the early 1920s to date. The University and its first President, Bowman
Foster Ashe, were early supporters of the efforts to establish the Everglades
National Park. The files include documentation of activities and extensive
correspondence with Ernest F. Coe of the Tropic Everglades Park Association.
Coe relied heavily on Ashe's support and advice in the years of work
prior to the establishment of the park.
